The Young Democrats of Utah champion the protection of equal rights
for all Americans. Rights are immutable as a force of individuality,
expression, belief, and being. Rights are the cornerstone of our
citizenry and they ought to be shared equally.
We believe that workers are the backbone of the American Economy and
they should be protected. As valuable members of our society, laborers
deserve reasonable compensation for their time and skills, both while
employed and long into retirement. In addition, all individuals have
the right to protect their own dignity. The Young Democrats of Utah
fully back associations and unions which strive protect their own
rights.
We believe that all individuals have the right to marry their loved
one. Everyone is entitled to have their love recognized by the state,
regardless of sex.
Abortion, a fundamental question regarding a woman’s ability to
choose her bodily fate, is paramount to the question of government
intervention. Because we believe that government intervention into the
womb is too much intervention, the Young Democrats of Utah support
choice.
Fiscally, the Young Democrats of Utah promote a government that
ensures the long term economic growth of our society. Because
prosperity cannot be measured solely in economic terms, we believe that
economic assessments should include social health and how a society
cares for its less privileged. Only then will our nation truly become
wealthy.
The apex of our civilization is found in our nation’s teachers. As
flag holders who instill in our youth with the necessary knowledge for
the future, teachers are crucial to our nation’s progress. The Young
Democrats of Utah believe that teachers should be appropriately paid
for the incommensurable service they provide society.
We believe that schools should be palaces, where students come to
eagerly learn the lessons for tomorrow. Sadly, too many of our schools
are substandard, with dilapidated structures and outdated books.
Students should be able to go to school, and be challenged for whatever
path chosen for their future.
We are integrally tied to the world in which we live. Not only do
we require resources to live and prosper, but how we treat our world
affects the health, life styles, and general well-being of all
humanity. Understanding the difficulties associated with environmental
stewardship, the Young Democrats of Utah support the research, growth,
and development of any and all sustainable development practices in
addition to the reasonable protection of our natural land, water, and
air.
Our nation was founded on the principles of freedom and
self-government and we believe that democratic citizenship includes
more than political action. Volunteering, social involvement, and
community action, are signposts of successful democracies. As a
result, the Young Democrats of Utah champion all social and civic
associations that further the free association, communication, and
interaction of individuals.
Finally, we believe that the government should provide tools to help
individuals achieve and maintain financial and social stability.
