Outlook 2000/XP/2003 Email Setup>

Although email account settings in various clients are often slightly different than those in Outlook, these instructions can be used generally speaking for other email clients such as Outlook Express, Thunderbird, and Eudora.

Here is a summary of the settings you will need to enable, regardless of the client you are using

  • You can use POP or IMAP. POP is preferred
  • Your username will be your entire email address, such as john@mydomain.com
  • Your client must be sent to authenticate. E.g. "My server requires authentication"
  • You should use outgoing/outbound port of 26 just to be sure.
  • You cannot use the SSL option. Please disable this if you accidently turnsed it on.
  • Other settings like "Name" or "Name of this account" is not important
Step 1: Click on "Tools" Menu at the top of Outlook, then "E-mail Accounts..."

Step 2: Select "Add a new e-mail account"

Step 3: Select POP3 as the Server Type

Step 4: Enter all your domain/email settings

Step 5: Setup your account to authenticate. To do this, click "More settings," then click the tab "Outgoing server." Put a check next to "My outgiong server (SMTP) requires authentication," and if available, "Log on to incoming mail server before sending mail."

Step 6: Since some ISP's and desktop security programs block port 25, you will probably want to use port 26 instead.

Step 7: Your Done! Click "Next" and/ or "Finish"

Notes for both Mac Mail & iPhone users

ONLY give the incoming mail settings a username and password, but NOT the outgoing settings. For the outgoing, only put in the mail server name (e.g. mail.yourdomain.com). You will NOT be using the authentication settings.

Other email clients will be very similar. For example, Mac (Apple) users can see the settings above can be applied to their Mac. Here are details on setting up an email account from Apple.com: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304773
